1. Quite surprising that a simple boring poster can travel so far in a relatively short space of time... imagine if it was a far more compromising picture!
2. I never considered that I wouldn't know who had shared it on Facebook, therefore who has my poster?
3. It crossed the globe very quickly within a couple of hours! are people on social networks permanently? is this due to the abundance of mobile devices? I wonder what the ratio of posts, shares, retweets is between PC/laptops to mobile devices?
I think this experiment has given me enough information to share with the school children already, to prove how quickly they can lose control of what they post online.... 'Digital Footprint'
Do any of us know what our Digital Footprint says about us?
How much personal information do we put online?
- Have a good birthday mate! - you have just told everyone your friends date of birth
-I've just bought a new TV- come and rob me I have the latest expensive technology
-We are having a lovely time on holiday! - the house is empty for the next 2 weeks!

8 Hours into the experiment!
So far I've had 40 plus favourites and retweets on twitter, the map shows the spread across the UK. Since beginning this blog add Eastbourne and Gateshead to the map.
Globally I've connected with Ontario Canada, Hobart Australia, Brussels Belgium, New Zealand and Croatia!

On Facebook I've had 40 shares however due to privacy settings I only know the location of 9 shares! These being my friends therefore 31 shares are from friends of friends and hence I have no control over where the poster has gone! I do know it has travelled to Warrington, Keswick, Leeds and Bradford. As you can see from the screen grab below bottom righthand corner 40 shares!
The Experiment!
I created the poster opposite including a brief explanation, hashtags and pictures. Then posted it to Twitter, Facebook and Instagram and hoped for the best.
The Initial Idea!
I launched Safer Internet Day (11/2/14) today in assembly, using the links they provided I told the story of DigiDuck and his friends. DigiDuck thinks about sharing over social media a nasty picture of Proud.Pig! Luckily whilst he's asleep Wise_Owl appears in a dream and shows him the possible consequences of his actions.
After the assembly I began thinking about sending a post via social media to demonstrate how far and how quickly a post can virtually travel with the minimal effort. I hope this will show my students the consequences of their actions online 'Their Digital Footprint"
